Laundering Instructions

WASH / LAUNDERING INSTRUCTIONS

Below you will find a number of downloads available to Registered Users which provide guidelines for the laundering of different categories of fabrics.

Wash instructions for polycotton Garments

Guidelines for Polycotton Fabrics (32 kB) (Download)

This download refers to the Laundering instructions for Industrial Washing, and is a useful guide.

Most Industrial Laundries, however, will have their own adapted procedures.

Wash instructions for garments with contrast colours

Guidelines for Contrast colours (29 kB) (Download)

Care should be taken particularly when washing white garments with contrast colours - these guidelines will assist.

Wash instructions for garments with a predominance of cotton mixtures

Guidelines for Cotton Rich Fabrics (27 kB) (Download)

Cotton by its nature will shrink more than man-made fibres, and as such additional care is required.

Wash
instructions for garments made from Flame-Retardant fabrics

Guidelines for Flame-Retardant Fabrics (26.5 kB) (Download)

Flame-retardant is - what it says. It is not Flame-proof. Therefore flame-retardancy garments tend to be manufactured from blended fabrics that have the retardancy properties added as a treatment to the fabric. They are not inherently flame-retardant, and therefore with progressive laundering the 'treatment' diminishes.  Fabrics in this category have been tested to perform throughout  what is regarded as a reasonable life term of 50 wash processes. This equates roughly to one year based on a weekly wash.

Wash
instructions for garments made from blended fabrics with a water-repellancy treatment

Guidelines for Water Repellancy on blended fabrics (26.5 kB) (Download)

Fabrics in this category have only a water-repellancy treatment applied to them - similar to the process in Flame-retardants above. Fabrics have been tested to perform to 50 wash cycles - approximately one year on a weekly wash basis.

Wash
instructions for garments made from ESD fabrics where fibre linting is not critical

Guidelines for ESD fabrics – non-Cleanroom (41 kB) (Download)

Static dissipative polyester/cotton fabrics can be washed using the normal polyester/cotton guidelines (Guidelines for Polycotton Fabrics - above). The use of softener/antistatic agents should be avoided as they interfere with the efficiency of the conductive fibres. The anti-static properties are provided by conductive fibres woven into the yarns of the fabric and so are not affected by the washing process.

Wash instructions for garments made from 100% synthetic yarns

Guidelines for 100% Polyester fabrics (27.5 kB) (Download)

Garments made from 100% polyester should be washed separately from other fabrics and finishes.

Wash
instructions for garments made from polyester yarns with static dissipative yarns for Cleanroom use

Guidelines for Cleanroom Garments (34.5 kB) (Download)

Garments made from 100% polyester cleanroom fabric are designed to act as a barrier to prevent particles from the wearer being transmitted to the product being manufactured. These garments should be washed in specialist laundries - where all aspects of contamination control are monitored - from incoming water and built-detergents to  airflow and regimes operative in the 'white' rooms of the laundry. The garments should be checked after washing to ensure that the air permeability and the particle counts are within agreed ISO limits.
